Keith Hammond, President

Keith Hammond was born in the north of England and grew up on the North Wales Coast. As a child he learned to play the violin. He gave up playing before going to college, a decision he has regretted ever since.  Choosing instead a scientific career he moved to the United States in 1968 and attended graduate school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC). After earning his Master’s Degree in Pediatrics and Biochemical Genetics he became a Senior Instructor of Pediatrics and Pathology and Director of the Pediatric Clinical Research Center Laboratory at UCHSC until he retired in 2000.  His interest in the early detection and diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis resulted in Colorado being the first state to introduce routine newborn screening for this disease. After retiring from the faculty at UCHSC he joined the staff of McAir Aviation in Broomfield as a Flight Instructor and Check Airman, putting his Commercial Pilot Certificate to use for eleven more years until retiring for a second (and final) time in 2011,

With his wife Nancy, Keith moved to Estes Park in 1987 (commuting to Denver every day for 25 years) where they now live with their two cats. In addition to being an enthusiastic hiker and snowshoer he maintains a strong interest in literature and classical music and joined the Board of the Estes Park Music Festival in 2012, and was elected President in 2013.
